About Me
Hi! My name is Jihan Bhuiyan, and I'm 17 years old. I am currently an undergraduate student at Cornell University majoring in atmospheric science. I've always had an interest in weather, and this site documents the evolution of that interest. I've been a SKYWARN spotter for the National Weather Service and observer for CoCoRaHS for several years now. In that time, I've also completed several projects related to the weather, and you can see the results of a few of them below. A couple of my other interests include photography and hiking, both of which are also represented on this site. If you'd like to get in touch, please email me at jihanbhuiyan2020@gmail.com, fill out the contact form on my hiking blog, or reach out to me on Twitter.
About the Site
"Spotter" has many meanings to me. I'm a gymnast, so spotters give me the peace of mind to try new skills and make sure I don't injure myself doing so. I'm a SKYWARN spotter for my local National Weather Service office, where my job is to spot the weather and report my observations. And I'm a photographer, so I spot beauty around the world and capture it with my trusty Canon T7. That is where the inspiration for this site came from.
Summer Projects
Over the years, I've completed a number of individual and team projects during my summers. You can find a rundown of them below.
piPACT (Solo)
Build a CubeSat (Team)
Kane's Data Science Bootcamp (Solo)
Employment History
The Food Project, July–August 2023 & June–August 2024
I worked for The Food Project as a Seed Crew member in summer 2023 and as a Root Crew member in summer 2024 (pictured). The Food Project is a food access non-profit based in eastern Massachusetts. I was at their Lincoln and Roxbury farms in 2023 and their Wenham and Lynn farms in 2024. In Seed Crew, our focus was on farmwork and education, with long days working the farms and occasional workshops to learn about food justice. In Root Crew, additional focus was placed on leadership and outreach. Long farmwork days remained a staple of the experience, but now we were the ones facilitating the workshops, sometimes for Seed Crew but usually in the broader community. We also hosted farmers' markets twice a week, one in Gloucester and one in Lynn.
